Dad with an old GMC |
For Father's Day this year, we had planned to visit my dad at his home in Central Pennsylvania, probably just spend some time together and take him out for dinner. My sister, however, had a better idea. Turns out that every year, Bellefonte, where my sister and her husband now live, hosts a huge car show, where people from all over come to display their classic, antique and custom cars and motorcycles. Dad being a huge fan of classic cars, we knew he'd love it. |
We worked out a plan to drive to Central Pennsylvania, pick up Dad, and then go to Bellefonte together. We'd spend the day with my sister and her husband, then drive back to Dad's that night in order to spend a little time with Mom before leaving on Sunday. So we met with Dad, and he nicely agreed to drive (in my car) the last leg of the journey to Bellefonte. My dog, Una, was deliriously happy to have me in the back seat with her, since she's always back there alone. She kept trying to get in my lap. I took tons of pictures while we were there, so I'll tell the rest of the story that way. In fact, there are so many, I'll only start today and continue the story later, probably tomorrow, unless I run into time constraints. First, the exterior and interior of one sexy, sexy car. I don't remember what kind it is, but I loved it.
Now, some phantoms from the past. We saw a 1972 Chevy Caprice Classic that looked almost exactly like the car I used to drive in high school and for a couple years in college. The big difference was mine was a 1973 four-door and was more of a brown color than green. The dashboard, however, looked almost the same. I had The Gryphon take a picture of me with it, so I could pretend it was mine. The Gryphon, on the other hand, likes his cars sleek and super modern, like this one. Some of the cars had fun details, showing that the owners must have a sense of humor, like a tray straight out of a 1950s drive-in, complete with plastic burgers and fries. Or this whimsical flourish, door locks topped with red plastic dice. That's about all I have time to cover today. Look for more later in the week.
