Musings
an Online Journal of Sorts

October 14, 2003 - To Do

I keep busy. Extremely busy. Some days more than others.

Like today, for instance: busy, busy, busy.

To give you an idea of the sort of thing that generally hangs over my head in a day, here's a quick look at my "to do" list.

Be warned: this is not for the faint of heart.

Long-term Goals

  • Finish writing my novel.
  • Get my novel published.
  • Get a volume of poetry published.
  • Get more articles published in magazines.
  • Attract newspapers for a weekly syndicated lifestyles/entertainment column.
  • Sell my 1988 Ford Ranger.
  • Learn to play guitar.
  • Lose another 30 pounds (have already lost 45-50).

Recurring Tasks

  • Laundry (weekly)
  • Cleaning apartment (biweekly)
  • Reducing clutter; organizing the tempest of my office space/living room (whenever)
  • Buying groceries and other daily needs (weekly)
  • Abs tape (8 minutes) (daily)
  • Kickboxing aerobics tape (25 minutes) (daily)
  • Cross training tape (25 minutes) (daily)
  • Pilates/yoga tape (25 minutes) (daily)
  • Dog walk (30 minutes) (daily)
  • Update Musings.
  • Work for pay: approximately 7-9 hours a day.

One-Time Tasks

  • Write up personal history of Monty Python Society.
  • Write up something about a friend of mine for her grandmother (as part of a special gift being put together by my mom).
  • Design the October issue of Wild Violet.
  • Write up questions for Tapping the Vein, for an upcoming Wild Violet issue.

As imposing as this list may appear, it's been getting lighter. For example, I just crossed off a long-term goal that had been stressing me for nearly a year: buying a new car. And my steady progress towards my weight-loss goal means that I can safely say I'm more than halfway there. I can also honestly say that I've reached my college weight: that is, the weight I was as an upperclassman. My goal is where I was as a freshman, before the Freshman 15 and the Sophomore 15.

You know, it might be a good idea for me to bookmark this page, so I can come back to it and check on my progress. That is, if I have time.

Moral:
Even the most imposing goals, approached in small steps, eventually become success.
