Musings

Saturday of Thanksgiving vacation was my day to have fun. Although I often take some weekend work, I left Saturday open to spend time with my family. We slept in until about 9, and then everyone got up and grabbed coffee and breakfast. Then Mom called to confirm plans for the evening, which were to meet at a nice Italian restaurant to hold a baby shower for my brother and his wife. |

Mom also called because I was supposed to work a trade with her. I was giving her a bag of clothes size 14 to 16, which are now too big for me. In exchange, she was giving me some of the clothes that were now too big on her, so that I can sell them in a local consignment store. So I drove over and made the clothing exchange, or rather, picked up the bag, since I'd given her my bag the night before. Then she showed me some of her recent artwork and things she's making for people for Christmas. We also spend some time talking about a book I'm working on of poetry from children, which Mom will illustrate. I'd given her some poems already, and she's coming up with ideas for illustrations for them. Then I drove back to Dad's place to wait with everyone for Dad to get back from his rounds. Once he returned, we went to see The Spongebob Squarepants Movie. We made the theater with about 10 minutes to spare and got ourselves seats. We were lucky we arrived when we did, since it was a matinee and filled with children. Somehow, we managed to get seats together. My brother, who's a big Spongebob Squarepants fan, loved it, as did his wife. I thought it was a lot of fun, too. Very silly. From the mall, we returned to Dad's and had just enough time to relax for a little bit, maybe take a short nap, and get changed. We met at the Italian restaurant at 5 for the baby shower. As requested, they'd given us a nice corner table, off to ourselves. We brought in our gifts and set them at the end of the table, then chatted happily while enjoying our meals. After dinner, my brother and his wife opened their presents. They got a lot of goodies, such items as a baby grooming kit, a wipes warmer, baby bibs, several one-piece garments, a beautiful baby blanket, and various baby grooming products. As they opened the gifts, they were really thrilled with everything they'd received. Overall, everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. Good food and good company. Afterwards, we headed back to our respective places: Mom to her place and the rest of us to Dad's. Rather than simply falling asleep in front of the TV, my sister asked if she could borrow my camera. She and her fiance took silly pictures. She eventually convinced me to join her, directing me into outrageous poses. We took
pictures until the battery in my camera started to die, and then even
this fun day had to end.
