December 30, 2004 - Little Black Dress

The Gryphon had off on Monday, so he came with me to Target to find me a New Year's outfit. I still had some money on the gift certificates my dad and sister had given me, and I thought I'd put them to good use.

First we stopped for breakfast at the diner near my place. Then we drove to Target, which wasn't nearly as crowded as I might have expected.

The Gryphon was very patient as I tried on different outfits. He was really helpful in giving me advice on what might look right. The ultimate result: a black sweater tank top, a black knee-length skirt with ribbon finish, by Isaac Mizrahi, and a pink fitted jacket, also by Isaac Mizrahi.

It took me awhile to come up with this, because I kept trying white tops, and that made me look like a box of Good 'n' Plenty. Plus, originally I didn't think I wanted simple black, but of the different options I tried, this fit the occasion best.

The ultimate result, The Gryphon tells me, is like a little black dress with a flash of color.

I also got a pink and tan tweed skirt which I thought was just fabulous and which was also (drum roll please) a size 10. I have not worn a size 10 since I was a freshman in college, so this was a great achievement.

We looked through the glove section, and The Gryphon helped me choose a pair of Thinsulate gloves. The funny thing is I had to get a women's XL, because my hands are apparently fairly big. I'm wondering if lifting weights has anything to do with it, since I've probably built muscles in my hands as well as my arms and legs.

At any rate, when we checked out, The Gryphon volunteered to pay for the gloves for me. I thought that was really sweet of him.

We got back to my apartment in plenty of time for me to do my regular assignments. The Gryphon relaxed in my apartment, playing video games, reading and working on stuff on his laptop.

When I had a break at dinner time, he cooked up some tilapia on the brand new indoor grill I'd got him, along with some veggies and couscous. It was delish.

After my usual evening assignments, we relaxed together, watching some Angel, each of us falling asleep during the second episode.

Moral:
You can't beat a little black dress.
