October 24, 2003 - Idle Thoughts

The moment is finally upon me. After months of anticipation, I'm going to my high school class reunion this weekend.

And the funny thing is, I'm not even nervous about it any more.

There are two main reasons for this:

  1. The Gryphon has agreed to come with me.
  2. I am currently more nervous about meeting Eric Idle.

Last weekend, when I was visiting my dad, he told me Eric Idle would be performing at the Williamsport Area Community Arts Center. This conflicted with the after-game party my class president had planned for after the high school homecoming game, but it only took me a short while to determine I wanted to go.

And then, being me, I also decided to try for an interview for my online magazine, Wild Violet. I called the house manager. "Will Mr. Idle be giving interviews?" I asked.

She checked her schedule. "Yes, he's doing a public meet and greet," she said. She recommended I just hang back and at the end of the autograph session, approach him with my request.

It sounded sensible, so in between my many other tasks this week (which was incredibly busy, naturally), I did some research on his recent work and wrote up a list of questions.

Meanwhile, The Gryphon is worried about meeting my parents. I told him not to worry; if they don't like him they'll club him over the head and leave him on the side of the road somewhere.

Now, time to go through all my Monty Python stuff and determine how much of it I can have Eric Idle sign without appearing to be a rabid fan girl.
