March 23, 2007 - Found Self Esteem

I haven't done a Musing of found items for a while, so here's some that I found recently. First, a really beautiful, sparkly sticker of a butterfly that says "Self Esteem". The image below is approximately life-sized.

I found that sticker several blocks from my house while walking my dog, Una. So it's possible that the people in this negative, found in front of my house, had also seen it. At any rate, they seem to have plenty of self esteem.

The negative is really damaged, so there's little chance that I could get a decent print made. Instead, I manipulated them in PhotoShop after photographing them in front of a light.

The first image seems to show someone on the phone. From the oversized shirt over a turtleneck, the oversized dangly earrings, plastic beaded necklace and the large plastic sunglasses, I'm guessing this negative is actually pretty old, possibly from the '80s or early '90s.

In the next shot, the same girl vamps for the camera, pulling back her hair. You can see she's wearing faded jeans. Very '80s.

In the third, a different girl reclines on a bed, wearing a long-sleeved shirt under a pink V-necked shirt and acid washed jeans.

In the final photo, the girl in the pink V-neck poses while standing, wearing the plastic sunglasses.

Looks like these two girls were having fun, playing for the camera. Considering that today's teens would most likely use their camera phones for this type of silliness, I'd guess that the girls in these photos are now adults, who may have their own teen daughters. If they still have those sunglasses, I bet their daughters would love playing with them, too.

Moral:
Teen girls of any decade need self-esteem.
