August 2, 2005 - Return of the Ego Search

A couple years back I did a Musing showing the results of an ego search, where I Googled my own name and talked about the various places I'm listed or linked to on the Web.

I tried it again recently and found some more interesting mentions.

The first thing I noticed is that the physicist with the same name has been a bit more active, publishing papers and such. I'm sure it annoys her to no end that most of the Google entries refer to sites related to me and that the very top search result on Google is my home page, alycewilson.com. That said, it's fairly easy to figure out which ones relate to her, given that I write poetry and humor, not physics articles.

Much to my surprise and pleasure, I discovered that the ebook published by Barnes and Noble of Love Sonnets of Elizabeth Barrett Browning, for which I wrote the introduction, is once again being sold online. I have not yet attempted to purchase a copy but will do so soon, since I never got a copy of it for myself. There's a Japanese site, Numilog Books and enjoyEbook.

My Yahoo! Profile page came up in the Google search for the first time, but that's not terribly exciting. I updated it about two years ago and will need to change the age at some point.

Pictures I supplied to the Penn State Monty Python Society's home page are now online, of the 1992 Homecoming Parade. Of course, you can get the full story of my experiences in MPS by visiting Dedicated Idiocy, which goes into it in depth. On that topic, fellow MPS president emeritus Fred Coppersmith mentions me on his blog, Occasional Fish, and retells his own MPS experiences. There's a link to a page from Dedicated Idiocy in a Mystery Science Theater 3000 fanvid live performance database.

I was flattered to discovery that my friend, The Cheshire Cat, has several links to Musings from his blog. He has links to my Backstreet Boys/Saddam Hussein parody, my retelling of my experiences with David Paul Hammer, and includes a silly quote from me on another entry.

Some of my Musings have found some interest on the Web. A blog called Wonderland links to my humor column about Marilyn Monroe and women's clothing sizes. My 2004 American Idol musings get a nod from an American Idol fan site. A Christopher Plummer fan site found my musing on running across the National Treasure shoot in Philly amusing.

A couple of people have either links to reviews I did of their work or include blubs on their sites. This includes author Frank Chigas, author Eric S. Brown, animator Mike Blum,

A Harry Harrison fan site links to my Wild Violet interview with him. The web site for a band founded in State College, Caesar Pink and the Imperial Orgy, includes an article I wrote about them for Voices of Central Pennsylvania.

Then there are the completely unexpected links, such as one on the Suite 101 page about Writing Personal Poetry. They link to Wild Violet, including the nice blurb I wrote for another site to which I'm a member, SPAWN, for small press publishers.

A PDF of the article on Penn State student radio which ran in The Penn Stater has appeared online, courtesy of Lion-Radio.org. A more complete accounting of my experiences with WPSU occurs in a Musing.

And so Project Personal Web Propagation seems to be a success.
