Yesterday I put online my latest project, an e-book called Stay Out of the Bin! An Editor's Tips on Getting Publishing in Lit Mags. As the editor
of a literary magazine, I thought I was in a unique position to be able
to talk about what does and doesn't work when it comes to submissions.
The book is a step-by-step guide to writing publishable poems or stories,
how to find markets, how to prepare submissions and how to avoid common
mistakes. I share some of my pet peeves as well as thoughts from other editors about what works and what doesn't work. |
|
The book
also includes a guide to rights and a listing of market directories which
can be used to find places to submit work. I've seen some of this information available in scattered places, but I've never seen such a comprehensive guide before, and certainly nothing that gives an editor's insights. The whole thing is available for sale at eBookAd.com. Details are in the Alyce Wilson Store. For the cover, I took a photograph of me putting a piece of paper in a wastebasket. The next step, of course, will be marketing it. I've added it to my "for sale" page on Musings, and I'll seek out inexpensive advertising in some of the writing ezines that should reach the audience I'd like to reach. At this point, I'm not sure where else I can get the word out. My site is already listed on search engines, so the spider will find it, eventually. But if anyone has any other suggestions, I'd like to hear them. At any rate, I feel good about finishing a project, especially one I'd intended to finish earlier this summer, as well as another e-book I haven't even started yet, on how to write publishable poetry. That will be heavily based on the lessons I used to for the beginning poetry course at Penn State. And of course, I have a myriad of other project spinning in the works, as well. But at least for the moment, I get that great rush, that feeling of accomplishment.
