July 8, 2004 - The Day's Bookends

Daylight Savings Time has a way of messing with you. This morning, for example, I got up to use the bathroom, and because it was so bright, I was astonished to see it was only 6 a.m.

Of course, I love this because, ironically, I am both a morning person and a night person. I like the bookends of the day, the quieter times. They're better for getting things done, before all the commotion starts.

In the summer, the bookends of the day are also nice because the heat is less oppressive, although that hasn't been bothering me so much this year. Maybe because I have an air conditioner. Or maybe because I'm drinking more water. Plus, the winter seemed to go on forever last year, and I'm enjoying being warm.

Right now I'm hard at work on the next issue of Wild Violet. It's going to be a double issue (Vol. III Issue 3/4 - Hot Heart), which will contain all the material that would have gone in our spring issue, as well as the material for our summer issue.

We're doing it this way because our web designer is getting married this summer and actually having two weddings. The first was on Memorial Day weekend, a Hindu wedding in Texas. The second will be later this summer, a Catholic wedding in Baltimore.

Rather than being twice as much work, the double issue is a little easier, since the web designer only has to create one design. I've been making good progress on it, and we'll get it out before the end of July.

When I woke up this morning at 6, I had a sinus headache. You would think I would learn from experience and take some medication, but I went back to sleep, hoping to wake up refreshed. Of course, that didn't happen. So now I've taken some medicine, which has dulled the edges of the pain, at least.

In addition to Wild Violet, I've got another project, one in my apartment. This week on trash day, I was walking my dog, Una, and came across a little white chest of drawers that looked like it might have been bought at IKEA. Aside from some minor signs of wear, it was fine, so I came back with my car, Moondance, and picked it up.

Yesterday, I moved my trunk that contains off season clothes into the basement and slid the new chest of drawers in place. Now I will clean it and then organize some of the clothes, spilling out of storage containers in my bedroom.

Una loves it when I get up early, because she generally gets more walks over the course of the day. I also am feeling more leisurely and have more time to pet her. As far as a dog's concerned, more time for petting and walks is always good.

Moral:
Sinus medicine is a last resort unless you want to feel fuzzy.
