I've been
thinking about my niece for so long that it's nice to know that she's
arrived healthy and that my brother's wife is doing well.
The call
from my brother came while I was in my improv class, so when I saw that
he'd left a message, I called back right away. I was so excited by the
news that I walked several blocks past the place where I was supposed
to meet The Gryphon and had to double back.
According
to my brother, the delivery went more smoothly than it had with my nephew.
They went to the hospital when the contractions started getting bad, and
the overall delivery went very quickly once they got there.
I can imagine
already what my niece's sweet little face must look like, because newborn
babies look very similar. In my mind's eye, she looks like a version of
my nephew, with darker hair and a rounder face. I can't wait to watch
her develop and grow. I made my brother promise to fill me in on all the
latest developments, and to tell me how my nephew reacts when he meets
his sister.
Of course,
I won't get to see her in person until The Gryphon and I visit Vermont
again, probably not until sometime early next summer. This is similar
to when my nephew was born. I didn't meet him until he was about six months
old, at my sister's wedding.
I also asked
my brother to send pictures as soon as he can. Hopefully, it won't be
too long before I get to see her face for the first time.
My brother
sounded tired when I spoke to him, so I urged him to get some sleep while
he could.
Imagining
this new little person entering my brother's happy household makes me
smile. Like I said about my nephew when he was born, even though I haven't
met her, I already love her!
